Honors Sophomore English II: Drama & Poetry
Honors Sophomore English II
Course Description
Like Honors Sophomore English I, this course consists of 4 different strands: reading, writing, vocabulary, and grammar. This course, however, will focus on poetry and drama.
In the poetry section of the course, we will study the forms and terminology of poetry by reading the works of accomplished poets and by writing our own original poetry. This will prepare us for a reading of Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey.
In the drama section of the course we will be reading one of the Greek Theban plays by Sophocles, along with at least one other play by Shakespeare.
Materials:
You should have a notebook and folder to keep track of notes and handouts.
Course Expectations:
I expect you to come to class prepared, which includes having your homework ready when you walk in the door. If you need to print something off, do it before you come to class. I do not accept late homework unless you were absent.
For longer pieces of writing, like essays, they will drop half a letter grade every day they are late.
Grading:
